Making a Simple Leprechaun Trap

(4 Years)

I wanted to make a leprechaun trap with the kids last year and we never got around to it.  When I saw this hat, I knew exactly what our trap would look like.  I invited the kids to create a rainbow stick out of Legos, gather gold doubloons and gold chains, and a gold treasure chest.  Then we put our trap together, with a path of gold leading right to it!

After Little Miss finished with the first trap, she began making a second trap.  She built a Lego fort, and filled it with gold.

They are eagerly awaiting the leprechaun to try to steal our gold and get caught in one of our traps.  We told them that leprechauns are tricky, little fairies that know how to sneak around traps to get at the gold.  If we catch them, then we get their pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.  However, if they sneak away, not only will they steal our treasure, they will be so irritated by the trap that they will wreak havoc on our home.  Wild One and Little Miss both decided we should try to catch a leprechaun.  Clearly, they are confident they will catch the little man.  Little Miss tested out the trap several times to make sure that it works.  "Yep, we're going to catch him Momma."
